The International Conference on Water and Flood Management (ICWFM), organized biennially since 2007 by the Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has established itself as a leading platform for advancing knowledge and practice in water-related disciplines. ICWFM-2027 marks the eleventh edition of this flagship conference. Water and flood management are inherently interdisciplinary fields that integrate hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology, climate science, environmental management, agriculture, disaster risk reduction, governance, livelihoods, and social sciences. As climatic, environmental, and socioeconomic pressures intensify, integrated approaches are increasingly necessary to understand the interactions between natural and human systems and to develop sustainable and resilient solutions.
ICWFM-2027 aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, development partners, and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and explore innovative responses to contemporary water challenges. The conference theme, “Securing Water for People and Planet,“ reflects the growing recognition that sustainable development, human well-being, and ecosystem health depend fundamentally on secure, equitable, and resilient water resources.
Water security extends beyond ensuring adequate water supply to include sustainable resource management, water quality protection, reduction of water-related risks, ecosystem conservation, and equitable access to water. Addressing increasing water demand, urbanization, environmental degradation, climate change, and competing sectoral interests requires integrated and forward-looking approaches that strengthen resilience, governance, technological innovation, and cross-sectoral cooperation. ICWFM-2027 invites participants to explore pathways toward a water-secure future that promotes human prosperity, environmental sustainability, and resilient societies.
